Mr. Voorsanger is the recipient of the Cannon Prize from the National Academy of Design
NEW YORK, NY, June 17, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bartholomew Voorsanger has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Voorsanger embarked on a career in architecture more than 50 years ago after graduating cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. Holding an honorary doctorate from the University of Architecture and Urbanism in Romania, he went on to earn a Master of Architecture from Harvard University in 1964. He started his career that same year as an associate with Vincent Ponte in Canada. Mr. Voorsanger then also served as a Co-Chairman of Voorsanger & Mills (Architects) in New York City. He founded Voorsanger & Associates, Architects (New York) in 1990, Taylor/Voorsanger Urban Designers in 1991 and Voorsanger Mathes LLC (New Orleans) in 2003.
Currently a principal with Voorsanger & Associates, Architects, Mr. Voorsanger's work has been featured in several exhibitions, including at New York University, the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, Harvard Graduate School of Design, the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt, Germany, the Museum of Finnish Architecture, and the Brooklyn Museum. His major projects include the Port Authority Newark Airport Terminal B mid-level, Le Cygne Restaurant, New York University Midtown Center, the Pierpont Morgan Library Garden Court and Museum, Elie Tahari Offices, Asia Society Offices and Museum, (New York), Hostos Community College, (New York), and the National World War II Museum (New Orleans).
Mr. Voorsanger is the recipient of the Cannon Prize from the National Academy of Design, as well as multiple awards from the New York City, State and National chapters of the American Institute of Architects, AIA/Better Homes, the Bard City Club, Interiors Magazine, the Stone Institute, Pratt Institute, New York University, and the New York City Art Commission. He is also the winner of two international competitions: the National WWII Museum, New Orleans, and the UAE National Military Museum, Abu Dhabi. He has been Chair/President of the NY Chapter of the AIA, Columbia University's Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture, and the Foundation for Architecture, NY.
A fellow of the National Academy of Design and the American Institute of Architects, Mr. Voorsanger is, or has served on the boards of several organizations, including the Society of Architectural Historians, the Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation, and the Architectural League of New York City. He is a member of the Century Association (Club) New York City. He is also featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World. Additionally, architecture professor Livio Dimitriu writes about his work: "For Voorsanger, nature is used as an architectural material to construct space, just like any other material." Author Alastair Gordon will be publishing a book about Mr. Voorsanger entitled, "UNFOLDED Bartholomew Voorsanger: How Architecture Saved My Life" (ORO Editions).
