Dr. Hong is a tenured staff scientist and writer who has made a significant impact on his research field and related industry since establishing his career in 2000. His most noteworthy achievements thus far include patents granted for storage devices he has created using the ferroelectric hard disk drive concept, as well as journal papers for being first-to-principle for the Piezoresponse Force Microscopy, and for the development of field effects from transistor-embedded nano-probes and charge gradient microscopy. With significant interest in visualization of emerging phenomena at materials interfaces, Dr. Hong is a highly respected member of the group and integrated imaging initiative at Argonne National Laboratory in USA. Since 2007, he has been a principal investigator and nanoscience scientist in the Materials Science Division. Currently, he holds an adjunct faculty position at KAIST as well as at Northwestern University and has been appointed as a Senior Fellow at Northwestern Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. He is also the co-founder of Andrew & Raymond Mentoring LLC, a science mentoring company in Illinois for middle and high school students. Prior, Dr. Hong was a highly respected project leader of the team at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in the Republic of Korea.
To advance his career, Dr. Hong earned a Ph.D. from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology after completing his undergraduate (summa cum laude) and graduate studies. He is considered an expert in his field and a public service leader by the team at Samsung. More impressively, Dr. Hong was named a Frontier Scientist by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and he was awarded the Frontier Award by Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in 2007 and the Young Investigator Outstanding Achievement Award by the International Symposium on Integrated Ferroelectrics in 2008. Today, he continues to contribute to his academia and industry through editorial projects, which most recently includes editing "Nanoscale Phenomena in Ferroelectric Thin Films" and "Emerging Non-volatile Memories." In recognition of professional excellence over the last 16 years, Dr. Hong was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Asia, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
Looking ahead, Dr. Hong intends to disseminate scholarly articles, mentor students, obtain additional patents and continue providing critical research that will help to shape the future of Argonne National Laboratory.
