Renowned Concert Pianist Barbara Suhrstedt Brings Russian Music to Life

Ms. Suhrstedt has performed at St. Petersburg's historic Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory

    SOMERVILLE, MA, October 20, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Fetrow Suhrstedt has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Barbara Fetrow Suhrstedt is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the recipient of a master's degree in piano performance from Boston University. For more than 25 years she traveled with her late husband Gerhardt, performing as a piano duo in front of audiences throughout the United States, Russia and Canada. Among famed venues at which they appeared are the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the Grand Palace of Peterhof in Russia, and many festivals including the Piccolo Spoleto, Grand Teton and Gina Bachauer International Music Festivals. They also appeared in concert at art museums in Boston, Cleveland, Denver, Phoenix and San Diego.

In 2002, Ms. Suhrstedt received an invitation to act as a jury member for the third Igor F. Stravinsky Competition for Young Pianists, held in Lomonosov, Russia, Stravinsky's birthplace. In 2013, during Lomonosov's third annual Stravinsky Fest, she was invited to lecture about Stravinsky's life in America. She has been a piano accompanist with the Boston College High School Concert Choir and served as artist-in-residence in public schools in several states, including Florida, Ohio, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, South Carolina and Wyoming. A former instructor at the South Shore Conservatory of Music, Ms. Suhrstedt has contributed to the future of arts education by developing multi-media programs incorporating visual arts, music, and historical elements from various time periods.

Ms. Suhrstedt is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a member of the board of directors for FLAME (Framingham Lomonosov Association for Mutual Exchange). She has served on the board of directors for Only A Child, which provides housing and educational opportunities for disadvantaged Guatemalan youth. While she is best known as a concert pianist regularly delivering riveting performances, Ms. Surhstedt and her late husband also compiled and released four CDs, titled "A Four-Hand Feast", "Dances for Duettists", "Elegie", and "Petrushka".

Ms. Suhrstedt has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
