Dr. Grutzmeier opened the first Gay Men's Health Clinic in Ostergoland County in 1985 and later established the Gay Physicians Association, for which he has served as president for more than 27 years. Over the course of his career, he has given more than 100 lectures at Linköpings University and All Health Care Professionals on AIDS, ethics and health care systems. Additionally, Dr. Grutzmeier has given more than 200 lectures on homosexuality and ethics on behalf the Supervising Group at Linköping University, which is revered for its reform of the education system for medical students to utilize the McMaster Model of evaluating and treating families. In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Grutzmeier was the recipient of a Gold Medal Award from the Royal Society Pro Patria and he was selected for a research fellowship by the Kolinski Institute. Additionally, he was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
Dr. Grutzmeier's career is supported by a sterling educational background. He earned an MD from Aarhus University in Denmark in 1977 and took postgraduate coursework at Karolinski Institute in Stockholm. He is a licensed physician and is a certified specialist in clinical chemistry, hematology, infection diseases and internal medicine as accredited by Linköping University. A contributor of articles to medical journals, he remains involved in his profession through consulting work with the Stockholm County Organization Against AIDS, the medical clinic at Norrkoping Hospital and the Swedish Institute of Communicable Disease Control. He also continues to arrange conferences for physicians and dentists on the topic of health issues for gay men and lesbians. Finally, Dr. Grutzmeier is a fellow of the European Society of Medical Oncology, the Swedish Hematology Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Swedish Gay Physicians Association.
