A talented chemist, Dr. Glusker worked in many capacities at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Her noteworthy roles include research fellow, research associate, assistant member, senior member and professor of basic sciences. Retired since 2003, Dr. Glusker's work lives on through a number of publications. She was the co-author of "Crystal Structure Analysis: A Primer," as well as two subsequent editions of the work. She also co-edited "Crystallography in North America," "Crystallography in Molecular Biology," "The Collected Works of Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin" and "Structural Crystallography in Chemistry and Biology." In recognition of professional achievements for more than five decades, Dr. Glusker was elected an honorary fellow of Somerville College at Oxford University, England, and gave an introductory talk at the Opening Ceremony of the International Year of Crystallography in 2014. Additionally, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
To prepare for a career in the field of science, Dr. Glusker (nee Pickworth) attended Oxford University and achieved a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 1953, a Master of Arts in 1957, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1957. Later, she earned an honorary Doctor of Science from the College of Wooster, Ohio. To remain at the top of her field, Dr. Glusker has been involved with prominent industry organizations. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Crystallography Association. Dr. Glusker is also a member of the American Association of Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society (England) and the American Society of Biological Chemists. Looking ahead, she intends to enjoy retirement and take on advisory roles for select science and research projects.
