Cathy Carey is an award-winning artist and educator whose work has been displayed throughout California and across the nation and has collectors worldwide. Painting in the Contemporary Expressive colorist style, she uses oil to create vivid and thought-provoking images. Ms. Carey has previously taught classes and led workshops at the Golden Door in Escondido, Calif., the Art Methods and Materials Show in Pasadena, Calif., and the Artists' Materials Expo in Santa Fe, N.M., her studio in Escondido, Calif., and her studio in Santa Fe, NM, and as an instructor at The Art Institute of California at San Diego. Other past roles include graphic artist for Circuit City Stores, art director for West Coast Community Newspapers, and owner of Elements Graphic Design studio.
Ms. Carey's work can be viewed a number of places, including The Wilde Meyer Gallery in Scottsdale and Tucson, AZ., the Chasen Gallery in Richmond, Va., the InArt Fine Art Gallery in Santa Fe, N.M., and The Ranch at Taos in Mexico. She has had one-woman shows at Escondido Artists Gallery and The Poway Performing Arts Center. Her book, "The Philosophy of Color," was published in 2004. An active member of the art community, Ms. Carey is a founder and past president of the Scripps Ranch Art Club.
After studying at the Corcoran School of Art, Ms. Carey received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1982. She has since utilized her education and passion for art through her many creations and endeavors in the art world. Her efforts have been recognized with several awards and honors, including first place for Local Color in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She received a special award and a People's Choice Award at the San Diego County Fair in 2015 and 2016. At Escondido Municipal Gallery, she received a first place recognition in 2010 and a People's Choice Award in 2009. Other recent honors include being chosen to be featured in the 23rd through 27th editions of Who's Who of American Women, the 21st through 26th editions of Who's Who in the World, the 6th edition of Who's Who in American Education and several editions of Who's Who in America.
