Recognized for nearly five decades of invaluable contributions to the field of education, Dr. Bellows parlays his extensive knowledge into his role with the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he has served as a professor of political science since 1981. Prior to entering the field in a professional capacity, he pursued studies at American University and UCLA, and also earned three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts from Augustana College, a Master of Arts from the University of Florida, and a Master of Arts and a Ph.D. from Yale University. He joined the University of Arkansas, where he worked as an assistant professor and then a professor of political science until 1981. During that time, he also obtained a Ph.D. and took on the role of chairman of the political science department at the University of Arkansas. Upon his departure from the University of Arkansas, he joined his current employer in the role of director of social policy sciences, a role that he held from 1981 until 1988.
A member of the American Association for Chinese Studies and the Association of Asian Studies, Dr. Bellows has contributed to many creative works, including "The People's Action Party of Singapore: Emergence of a Dominant Party System," which he co-wrote with S. Erikson and H. Winter, "Conflict and Compromise: An Introduction to Political Science," and "No Change in Sight: Party Politics and Taiwan's Legislative Yuan During the Global Economic Crisis." Currently, he is working on a book and an article slated for release in 2017; one work speaks to the political economy of Singapore and the other involves Taiwanese economic issues over the past two years. Dr. Bellows has also served as an editor for the American Journal of Chinese Studies since 1999. Additionally, he has had the honor of being included in the 6th edition of Who's Who in American Education, the 22nd, 23rd, 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who in American Politics, 16 editions of Who's Who in the World, and 27 editions of Who's Who in America, going back to 1986. Looking ahead, Dr. Bellows intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career with the University of Texas at San Antonio.
