Caroline Chung, MD, Honored for Excellence in Radiation Oncology

    HOUSTON, TX, February 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Caroline Chung has been included in Marquis Who's Who. In April 2016, Caroline Chung accepted a new position as an assistant professor, radiation oncologist and Director of MR Research in the Division of Radiation Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. This center of excellence in cancer care serves as a strong platform for Dr. Chung to continue making a difference in cancer research and treatment. Prior to relocating to Houston for her new role, Dr. Chung spent five years as an assistant professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto and as a radiation oncologist, clinician-investigator, and clinical scientist at the University Health Network at Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto, Canada. During her time in Toronto, she was the clinical lead for the Quantitative Imaging for Personalized Cancer Medicine program, which facilitates centralized image analysis of advanced MRI, CT and PET imaging from international clinical trials, the clinical and research co-lead of the Brain Metastases Clinic and the lead of the Robert and Andree Fitzhenry Brain Metastasis Program through which she developed one of the first dedicated website resources on brain metastases. She remains an affiliate scientist of the University Health Network Techna Institute in Toronto, Canada.

Dr. Chung prepared for her career at the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 1999 and an MD in 2003. She also completed a residency in radiation oncology through this school. A fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, she went on to complete a research fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Center and obtain a Master of Science through the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto concurrently while completing the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Clinician Investigator Program through the University of British Columbia.

Her research has largely focused on utilizing advanced imaging to measure, predict and guide treatment of cancer through optimizing high precision radiotherapy and combination treatment including the combination of novel systemic agents with radiation. In efforts to improve the quality and standardization of imaging to facilitate meaningful measurement and interpretation of imaging biomarkers in clinical trials, Dr. Chung is serving roles on several professional organizations including co-chair of the Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE)-MRI Task Force for the Radiological Society of North America Quantitative Imaging Biomarker Alliance, member of the Jumpstarting Brain Tumor Drug Development Coalition's Imaging Standardization Steering Committee, co-chair of the Neuro-imaging Subcommittee in the Neuro-Oncology Committee of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology.

Furthermore, Dr. Chung is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society. She has received a number of grants and awards including the Alliance Scholar Award in Honor of Emil "Tom" Frei III in 2014. Due to her passion for the field of oncology and mentorship of young oncologists, Dr. Chung was elected as co-chair of Women in Cancer (WinC) in 2012 and continues to serve in this role. This organization is 'committed to advancing cancer care by encouraging growth, leadership and connectivity of current and future oncologists' field of oncology.

These and other accomplishments were taken into account when Dr. Chung was chosen to be featured in the 54th through 63rd editions of Who's Who in America, the 6th and 7th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 1st edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders. She has also appeared in several editions of Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
