For more than five decades, Dr. Mc Bride has met with success at the higher education level in the field of philosophy. He has held the position of Arthur G. Hansen Distinguished Professor at Purdue University since 2001. In total, he has committed 44 years of his career to the university, during which time he came to prominence as an associate professor and then professor. Other positions held by Dr. McBride during his career include lecturer at Northwestern University, associate professor at Yale University, instructor of philosophy at Yale University, and President of FISP, the International Federation of Philosophical Societies, a worldwide organization with over 100 member societies. In recognition of his professional excellence, he was made a Chevalier in the French Ordre des Palmes Academiques, and a silver medalist for outstanding contribution by a foreign philosopher from the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition, Dr. Mc Bride was featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the World.
Dr. Mc Bride earned a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University in 1959, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Yale University in 1962 and 1964 respectively. He held both a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship and a Social Science Research Council Fellowship at Yale, the first during his first year and the second during his final year as a graduate student at Yale. Additionally, he completed post graduate research at the University of Lille in 1959-1960.
As evidence of his being active in his field, Dr. Mc Bride held important positions within all of the following associations, the most noteworthy being the past president of the North American Society for Social Philosophy; the American Association of University Professors, the American Philosophical Association, the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy, and the American Society of Philosophy in the French Language. In addition, he has taken on related career opportunities to increase his impact on his industry. He has served as a senate chairman for Purdue University, a lecturer for the Korcula Summer School and a Fulbright lecturer for Sofia University in Bulgaria. As he looks to the future, Dr. Mc Bride intends to continue contributing to the field of philosophy as an educator while taking on new projects as they arise.
