In addition to the patents, Dr. Whitehurst has made significant strides in environmentalism including biodegradable systems, waste disposal, rubber recycling, and the conversion of industrial by-products to non-toxic materials. In light of his contributions, he was awarded the International Biographical Center's Gold Medal and named Honorary Director General. Dr. Whitehurst was also inducted into the Engineering Hall of Fame and presented with the Sir Isaac Newton Legacy of Honor Award.
