Backed by more than 40 years in the historical profession, Dr. Chesson was appointed to the Belmont, Massachusetts, Historic District Commission by the town's Board of Selectmen in September 2016 for a three-year term. He is the Founding Professor Emeritus of the American College of History & Legal Studies. After graduating from the College of William and Mary, he was a Teaching Fellow for three years at Harvard University, and a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts-Boston for 32 years, where he also served as history department chair. In 2010 he became the Founding Professor and Dean of the American College.
An alumnus of William and Mary and Harvard, Dr. Chesson holds an A.B. in History with high honors, and a Ph.D. His professional associations include the American and Southern Historical Associations (life member), the Organization of American Historians (life member), the Virginia Historical Society, and the Military Historical Society of Massachusetts. Additionally, he has been noted for his professional efforts with inclusion in 17 editions of Who's Who in America, the 7th and 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, and 11 volumes of Who's Who in the World.
