A medical professional who specialized in neurology until his semi-retirement in 2011, Dr. Campbell made strides in the health care community for more than four decades. He is best known for 100 scientific articles and book chapters and five books. In 2005, the 6th edition of Dr. Russell DeJong's classic textbook "The Neurologic Examination" was published, followed by a 7th edition in 2013, and the 8th edition is scheduled for publication in 2019. Dr. Campbell also did a complementary book, "Clinical Signs in Neurology" in 2015 which includes embedded videos and is very futuristic. In addition, he is regarded for the medical publications that he has authored, which includes "Essentials of Electrodiagnostic Medicine," which earned an honorable mention award from the American Medical Writer's Association. Dr. Campbell has also authored "Practical Primer of Clinical Neurology," and "Pocket Guide and Toolkit to DeJong's Neurologic Examination." In his career, he has made a tremendous impact as a medical educator. He was a professor at the Uniformed Services University of Health and Sciences, where he was also recognized as the chairman of the department of neurology. Prior to that, he came to prominence through teaching and clinical care roles with the Medical College of Virginia.
In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Campbell was named Outstanding Teacher by the Medical College of Virginia and by Walter Reed Army National Military Medical Center. He was also the recipient of the Golseth Young Investigator Award from the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. More recently, Dr. Campbell was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World. Distinguished because of his impressive academic background, Dr. Campbell is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, where he earned an MD in 1970. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and a Master of Science in health administration from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Campbell is licensed by the state of Virginia and board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and has a certificate of added qualification in neuromuscular medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
