WEST LAFAYETTE, IN, March 16, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kartik Ariyur has been included in Marquis Who's Who. For the last two decades, Dr. Ariyur has parlayed his extensive knowledge of the engineering field into numerous roles. He began in the field in 1996 after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering. His degree was based on an old German curriculum, with a thorough grounding in mathematics, physics and engineering coupled with extensive shop work. He first joined the University of Maryland, College Park as a Teaching Assistant in Fall 1996. He was then appointed a Research Assistant in Spring of 1997. He moved with his adviser Prof. Miroslav Krstic to the University of California, San Diego. In the Summer of 1998, he worked as an engineering intern for United Technologies Research Center in Connecticut, and the following year, he earned a Master of Science from the University of California, San Diego. From Fall 2001 through Summer 2002, worked as a part time intern in Qualcomm Inc. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in August 2002. From 2002 to 2008, he served as a scientist at the Honeywell Labs in Minneapolis. From August 2008 through Summer 2015, he worked at Purdue University as an Assistant Professor, a position he held until 2015. He worked on building several start-ups, and co-founded SAMMS LLC in 2016. He continues to lecture part time at Purdue University.
In addition to these roles, Dr. Ariyur served on the program committee of the Hybrid Systems, Computation and Control Conference in Santa Barbara, Calif., the American Control Conference, the IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, and several others, and is a technical editor of the International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, an associate editor of the IEEE Control System Letters, a member of the IEEE CSS Conference Editorial Board, and has given guest lectures at several venues including the Texas A&M University, Lehigh University, the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. He was also a featured hot topic speaker at the San Diego Venture Summit in 2015.
A member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and IEEE, Dr. Ariyur has parlayed his extensive background into many creative outlets, including professional journals, such as the IEEE Sensors Journal, books and conferences. He is also the author of "Real-Time Optimization by Extremum-Seeking Control." Although he has achieved much throughout his career, some of his most notable achievements have been discovering a new technique for adaptive control, obtaining patents for pilot estimation using prediction error method-switched filters, having numerous other patents pending in his field, inventing a system and method for urban UAV surveillance, and heading his own TED Talk at Purdue University called "Defining the Undefinable." Further, he had the honor of being named to many editions of Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. In the coming years, Dr. Ariyur intends to experience continued growth and success.
