Recognized for an astounding six decades of invaluable contributions to her field, Ms. Sasek began her career as a teacher and head of the junior and senior high school English program for public schools in Somers, Conn., where she served from 1947 until 1959. The year she started in the public school system is the same year she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. While she remained with the school system, she studied at the University of Paris and the University per Stranieri and also earned a Master of Arts from Radcliffe College and a Master of Education from Springfield College. After leaving the public school system in Connecticut, Ms. Sasek became an English teacher for Winchester Public Schools in Massachusetts for one year. In 1961, she started with Louisiana State University as a member of the faculty, where she stayed until 2007. During this long-held position, she also took on other roles with the university, including chairman of freshman English, part-time teacher, and assistant professor of English.
A shining example of skill in her field, Ms. Sasek remains affiliated with the Modern Language Association. Before retirement she was also an active member of the American Association of University Professors, and the South Central Modern Language Association. Throughout her long-standing and storied career, she earned a variety of awards such as the George H. Deer Distinguished Teaching Award through Louisiana State University and the Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Amoco Foundation. She was also named Louisiana State University Yearbook Favorite Professor and received a Commendation from the Louisiana House of Representatives. In addition, she was honored with inclusion in numerous editions of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
