Considered a scholar in the field of mathematics, Dr. Tucker has been a prominent educator for the last 45 years. Over the course of his career, he has held numerous roles with Colgate University, including professor Charles Hetherington Professor of Mathematics, Director of the Division of National Sciences, acting Dean of the College, and chairman of the mathematics department. He has worked as an instructor at Princeton University, a visiting associate professor at Dartmouth College. He was chairman of the Advanced Placement Calculus committee of the College Board of New York City and vice president of the Mathematical Association of America. Dr. Tucker was also the president of the Calculus Consortium for Higher Education. Driven by the passion he feels to enlighten students and teach them the importance of mathematics theory and application as it pertains to science, he feels that working with Colgate University has allowed him to pursue his life's work.
On five occasions, Dr. Tucker has been a grantee of the National Science Foundation to pursue projects and research in his field. As a result, he has co-authored with Jonathan Gross the graduate textbook Topological Graph Theory and has written more than 70 articles on topology, combinatorics, and group theory. In recognition of professional excellence, Dr. Tucker was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. When asked of his success, he credited his academic background and the professional organizations with which he affiliates. Dr. Tucker earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1967 followed by a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College in 1971. Today, he remains at the top of his field by affiliating with the American Mathematics Society and the Mathematics Association of America, for which he has served as chairman of many of its committees and as its vice president for two years.
