He has held both of these positions since 2002. Prior to entering the professional world, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Duke University. After graduation, he became an intern with the U.S. House of Representatives and a research assistant at Harvard Medical School, where he remained for one year. Then, from 1985 until 1986, he worked as a research assistant with Dartmouth University Medical School, before transferring to Loma Linda School of Public Health as a research associate for another year. Upon leaving that role, he also earned a Master of Public Health in international health from his employer and a certificate in epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University.
Starting in 1988, Dr. Dasgupta became a government intern yet again, this time for U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, where he served for one year. He returned to school around this time, earning an MBA in finance from George Washington University in 1989 and an MD from St. George University in Grenada in 1994. Upon graduating, he started as a medical resident with Hahnemann University Hospitals through the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He remained in that role for three years, before becoming a research associate and geriatric fellow there. Just prior to obtaining his current role, he became a research associate at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey and a cardiology fellow for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 1999 until 2002.
