Dr. Simpson began his career in 1973 as an associate researcher with NASA, before moving on to the positions of research assistant for the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, and radio program host and producer for Station KUSF-FM. Subsequently, he worked as a research associate with UCLA and the U.S. Department of Energy.
In the 1980s, Dr. Simpson was a Congressional Science Fellow in environmental health for Congress, and worked with the U.S. Congressional Research Service as a specialist in environmental technology and life sciences. More recently, he worked as a senior principal leader, science fellow and chair of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics council of Computer Science Corporation, and a STEM project manager for QNA/Vencore in support of the Office of Naval Research, before returning to the public sector in ONR.
Dr. Simpson attended the University of California, Berkeley and earned an Artis Baccalaurerate in biological sciences. He also holds a Master of Science from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Science in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, he earned a Ph.D. in environmental sciences and engineering from UCLA. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as of the American Chemical and American Nuclear Societies. Dr. Simpson has contributed his extensive knowledge to articles in professional journals and chapters in books. Throughout his notable and ongoing career, he has been honored many times for his work. In fact, he was featured in the 48th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, three volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 23rd through 28th editions of Who's Who in the East.
