In 2013, having maintained a professional relationship with Kyung Hee University in a variety of roles, Dr. Kim joined the school's department of periodontology as a clinical associated professor. Earlier in his career, he was chairman of the department of periodontology at the Capital Hospital of the Armed Forces in Bundang, Korea.
An alumnus of Kyung Hee University, Dr. Kim holds a DMD, a Master of Science in dentistry, and a PhD in the field. In order to remain current with industry trends, he affiliates himself with The Korean Dental Association, The Korean Academy of Periodontology, for which he formerly served as the associate director of international affairs, and The Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Implantology.
Since 2005, Dr. Kim has been invited to speak at a variety of seminars. The Korean Academy of Implant Dentistry, The Korean Academy of Periodontology, and the Daewoong Implant Symposium have requested that he conduct lectures on such topics as implant placement in the maxillary anterior region, sinus augmentation and elevation, and implant maintenance therapy. Additionally, Dr. Kim has parlayed his extensive knowledge of dentistry into scholarly journals. Along with fellow scholars, he conducted a comparative study of the tissue response of various suture materials in rats, and also researched clinical treatments of postoperative infections following sinus augmentation.
