Post graduate studies include those at Columbia University and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His professional affiliations have included the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools, and the Southern Baptist Association of State Executive Directors, where he served as president from 1996 until 1997.
This impressive background led Dr. Pinson to lend his knowledge to professional journals and books like "Baptists and Religious Liberty," the thirteen volume "Twenty Centuries of Great Preaching" and "Who in the World Are Baptists Anyway?" He also served as the co-editor of the "Broadman Leadership Series" and as a contributor for the Baptist Standard and the Southwestern Journal of Theology. Dr. Pinson has received a variety of accolades, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Southwestern Seminary in 1979 and from the University of North Texas in 1980, the Mosaic Missions Award from the Home Mission Board in 1984, the Pioneer Award through the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation in 2001, the George W. Truett Award through Baylor University in 2008, the Pro Ecclesia Award from Baylor University in 2010, and the T.B. Maston Award in 2015. Further, he was featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest, as well as one volume each of Who's Who in Religion and Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
