CHEONGJU, SOUTH KOREA, June 21, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sang-Tae Kim has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Kim has devoted more than a decade to the study of the Korean language. As an assistant professor at Cheongju University, he teaches linguistics and the nuances of the Korean writing system, also known as graphemics. Dr. Kim also conducts research into typology and the relationship between related languages like Japanese and Chinese, and delves into the structure of written language, all of which results in a phenomenal amount of published works. This incredible output is apparently the result of pure enjoyment, as Dr. Kim says he began to study Korean language simply for pleasure.
From 1989 to 1990, Dr. Kim served in the Korean military. He matriculated at Cheongju University in South Korea with a Bachelor of Arts in Korean language and literature in 1994. In 1997, he finished work on a Master of Arts, which included the disciplines of Korean linguistics, lexicology, morphology, and semantics. During this time, he worked as a graduate research assistant and part-time lecturer at Cheongju University. Dr. Kim became a doctor of philosophy there in 2001 with a concentration in statistical stylistics, graphemics, and computation, moving on to teach part-time at Chungbuk National University and Chungju National University before returning as a full-time lecturer to his alma mater, Cheongju University. Over the years, he has taught a dizzying array of subjects, incluing Korean Phonology, History of Korean, Korean Dialectology and an Overview of Chinese Characters.
The prolific Dr. Kim has earned membership in the International Circle of Korean Linguistics, the Harvard ISOKOL, the International Society for Korean Studies and multiple linguistics societies in Korea. He has published many academic papers, books, and presentations, including "The System of Graphemes in Hunminjeongeum," which was presented at Cornell University at the 16th International Conference on Korean Linguistics. In 2017, Dr. Kim published a cross-cultural paper entitled "The Hanzi Writing System Adopted in Both Old Korean and Old Japanese." His book, "The Revelation of a Clipped Word for the Processing in Computers," was given the 2006 Excellent Scholarly Book award by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in South Korea.
Dr. Kim serves as editor in chief for Studies in Linguistics from the Joongwon Linguistic Society of Korea, and Korean Education published by The Association of Korean Education. He is an appointed member of the College Scholastic Ability Test Committee in the Korean Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation. Dr. Kim also reviews proposals for curriculum courses with the National Research Foundation of Korea. He attributes his success to unceasing effort, good luck, and fittingly, communication with other people.
