KEY BISCAYNE, FL, July 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Marilyn Ross has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A revered educator, Dr. Ross is well regarded for encouraging and helping students to meet their greatest potential. Since 1995, she has served as a professor of higher education at Florida Memorial University, where she demonstrates an expertise in the area of American Studies, particularly minority studies. She came to prominence with the college earlier in her career as an assistant professor and associate professor of English. She is responsible for authoring the intellectual texts, "Success Factors of Young African American Males at a Historically Black College," and "Success Factors of Young African American Women at a Historically Black College." Finally, Dr. Ross has produced more than 100 hours of African American, Caribbean and Hispanic programming for WLRN cable TV in keeping with her studies of intercultural communications.
Distinguished in the academic community, Dr. Ross was the recipient of an Outstanding Service Award from Florida Memorial College and the Black Archives History and Research Foundation of South Florida. Additionally, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. When queried about her success, Dr. Ross credited her own educational background, which prepared her properly for a career in academia. At the University of Miami, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and a Master of Arts in 1971, both focused on American studies. Later, she returned to the university to achieve a Ph.D. in higher education leadership. To remain at the head of her field, Dr. Ross is an active member of the Modern Language Association, the American Association of University Women, the Association of Educational Leadership, the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Association of African American Studies and the American Studies Association. She also serves as Chairman of the Division of the Humanities Scholarship Banquet, raising scholarship money for English majors, and as Historian for the Rotary of Key Biscayne. Looking to the future, Dr. Ross intends to continue teaching at Florida Memorial University while taking on advisory opportunities in the field of education.
