Prior to serving in his current role, which he started in 2002, he spent a decade designing industrial machinery before spending the subsequent decade running a sawmill. An expert in his field, Mr. Bae has designed such pieces as a wooden bed, which can be heated, a wooden embroidery closet, a wooden cabinet, wooden kitchen cabinets and dining room tables, and text sculptures. He was honored with the Korean Civil Award for his contributions to SootGagu (charcoal furniture) research and development.
Over the years, Mr. Bae has appeared on the Korea Broadcasting System on numerous occasions to promote his beautiful charcoal creations. Additionally, Hyundai has interviewed him, and he holds two patents related to his work. In addition to the well-received publicity, Mr. Bae has been lauded many times for his professional accomplishments, including a featured in the publication Who's Who in the World. He holds a diploma from Busan Institute of Science and Technology. During his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife, son and daughter. His special interests are Pansori (Korean traditional narrative song) and woodcraft.
