An award-winning technology expert and innovative engineer, Dr. Faggin is credited with developing the silicon gate technology for MOS fabrication and designing the world's first microprocessor, the Intel 4004, as well as all other early Intel's microprocessors (8008, 4040, and 8080). In 1974, he co-founded and was CEO of Zilog, Inc. the developer of the Zilog Z80 microprocessor and Z8 microcontroller that are still in production today. Dr. Faggin has held prominent roles in the semiconductor industry. He notably served as CEO of Foveon, Inc.; chairman, CEO, and co-founder of Synaptics, Inc.; co-founder and CEO of Cygnet Technologies; department manager for Intel Corporation; and section head for Fairchild Camera and Instrument Corporation.

He also earned a lifetime achievement award from the European Patent Office, a Kyoto Prize, a W. Wallace McDowell Award from the IEEE Computer Society, a Marconi Fellowship award, and many other prizes. Named to the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Dr. Faggin was also honored through features in Who's Who In America, Who's Who in 20th Century America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in the World.
To prepare for a career in technology and engineering, Dr. Faggin pursued his academic studies in Italy where he was born, receiving a Laurea in Physics summa cum laude from the University of Padua in 1965. Crediting his education and passion for science as the foundations of his success, Dr. Faggin is gratified by the challenges he was able to tackle in his career. Although now retired from business, he established the Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation in 2011 for the scientific study of consciousness, activity to which he is now dedicating himself full-time.
