Dr. Lemnios, an engineer and retired interim vice-president of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 2002, was initially inspired to pursue aeronautical engineering by his older brother, an electrical engineer and graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Attending the same college as his brother, Dr. Lemnios completed his Bachelor's and Master's degree at MIT in 1953 and 1954, respectively, before completing a PhD from the University of Connecticut several years later in 1967. He also completed a graduate management program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a graduate advanced management program at Harvard University.
Prepared to pass on the torch to someone else, Dr. Lemnios commenced his career as interim vice-president in November 1999. Ready to spend more time with his wife and family, which now includes five grandchildren, he was originally taken on board at Rensselaer as a clinical professor in the mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, and mechanics department and as director at the Rotorcraft Technology Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1993.
Dr. Lemnios also served as vice president and dean from 1999 to 2002 and as adjunct professor from 2002 to 2003. Previous to his work at Rensselaer, Dr. Lemnios spent 32 years with Kaman Aerospace Corporation, first as a senior analytical engineer, then as chief of fluid mechanics, chief research engineer, director of research and technology, and finally assistant vice president of research and technology programs.

An Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and an Honorary Fellow of the American Helicopter Society, Dr. Lemnios spent time on a number of technical advisory committees for NASA, the U.S. Army, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Maryland, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also served the AHS Board of Directors for five years and was Technical Director for two years for the AHS Annual Forum.
To honor Dr. Lemnios' many years in the field, he has been included in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
