As head of Mazlen Medical Arts, PC, Dr. Mazlen applies over three decades of experience in internal medicine and pharmaceuticals to private practice and advanced medical research. His specialty is immunity, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of infection, immunological dysfunction, fibromyalgia, and managing cancer malnutrition or fatigue. In particular, Dr. Mazlen has treated over a thousand cases of chronic fatigue immune dysfunction (CFIDS). He also has clinical experience with Lyme disease, heavy metal toxicity, and sleep disorders. His practice, based out of Roslyn, New York, is motivated by a mission of giving an individualized approach to health care.
Dr. Mazlen earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the prestigious Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1959 and an M.D. from the State University of New York, Brooklyn, in 1963. He interned at the Maimonides Medical Center nearby before serving his residency there. In 1965, he became a research associate in the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda, Maryland, before serving a second residency in medical ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. From 1965 to 1967, he also served with the U.S. Public Health Service. In 1968 he was awarded a U.S.P.H.S. two-year post doctoral fellowship to work at Harvard Medical School with the Peter Bent Bringham Hospital in Boston.
In 1970, Dr. Mazlen was an associate medical director at Pfizer, Inc, and in 1971, he directed clinical research at Ayerst Laboratories in New York while serving as senior faculty at the division of endocrinology and metabolism at Mount Sinai Medical Center. At Ayerst Laboratories, he developed and conducted clinical research studies leading to the approval of Inderal, the first beta-blocker to be used in medicine in the U.S. Dr. Mazlen was associate director for clinical research at Schering Corp. until 1978, at which time he devoted his time to Mount Sinai and his private practice.
Dr. Mazlen has served the health of his community as a consultant with the Professional Children's School in New York and as a consultant on nutrition and metabolism with South Oaks Hospital in Amityville, NY. He has also been an author, contributing to a chapter in "Quick Reference to Clinical Nutrition" and collaborating on "Nutrition and Health Care." He has spoken as a medical lecturer and was a former director of clinical research at the North American Immunotec Ltd. in Montreal, as well as a former chair of the hyperalimentation committee at Astoria General Hospital. Dr. Mazlen is a fellow and former chair of the American College of Nutrition, as well as a member of the American Chemistry Society, the Society for Natural Immunity, the American College of Cardiology, and was awarded the Good Doctors List award for his work in CFIDS. Notably, he was active for many years in the Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He received New York Magazine's Top Doctor Award for Internal Medicine (2017), was named a Top Doctor USA and was recognized with the Albert Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award (2017). Dr. Mazlen is a reoccuring speaker at the annual Breast Cancer Conference, as an expert on nutrition and medicine for cancer treatment, sponsored by the Sass Medical Research Foundation.
In 1972 Dr. Mazlen wrote "A New Manifesto for Middle America," with a mind for civic duty. He has served on the board of the Bayside Hills Civic Association, in various capacities for the Sass Foundation, and is a founder and former chair of the Queens Country Common Cause organization.
