Dr. Do is a prolific leukemia researcher and professor at the Keimyung University School of Medicine in Daegu. He has contributed to over one hundred medical papers, many of them on bone marrow transplantation, stem cell research, and other strategies for treatment of leukemia and related cancers. In March of 2017, Dr. Do published with a team of doctors on sequential strategy for transplanting umbilical cord blood into a girl with Fanconi anemia with leukemia, placing Dr. Do on the cutting edge of cancer research.
Born in 1968, Dr. Do matriculated at Keimyung University for all three of his degrees. After his master's degree he delved into internship and residency at the associated Dongsan Medical Center. From 1998 to 2001, he became a medical officer with the Korean military, and was assigned as a medical officer of the UN Mission for the Referendum in the Western Sahara. Back at Dongsan, Dr. Do became a fellow with the division of medical oncology and hematology in 2002. Dr. Do earned a PhD in 2004, and in 2007, he spent a month with Keio University in Tokyo as a visiting physician with the bone marrow transplantation program at the division of hematology. From 2008 to 2009, he visited the U.S. as a research scholar at Duke University's adult hematopoietic stem cell transplantation section.
Dr. Do began teaching at Keimyung University in 2005, becoming a full professor in March of 2017. To further his research and collaborate with peers, Dr. Do has joined numerous Korean medical associations, including the Korean Cancer Association, the Korean Society of Hematology, the Korean Society of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, and the Korean Association of Internal Medicine. He trained with the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative in 2010, and attended the International Conference for Institutional Review Boards in collaboration with the Western Institutional Review Board. He is also a noted member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
For dedication to the medical field and relentless pursuit of a cure for cancer, Dr. Do was selected for inclusion in the 2016 volume of Who's Who in the World. He is married to Ji Woon Yea, and has two children, a son and a daughter. In his spare time, Dr. Do enjoys sports.
