A professor in the department of engineering at Jeonju University since 2007 and the executive director at the Electrical Safety Research Institute since 2004, Dr. Choi has been able to combine his passion for teaching with his love of engineering in the field. As a professor of engineering at a private Christian university, he has been able to pass along all that he has learned and experienced, both as a former student and as an electrical engineer, to the future minds of the industry. Dr. Choi's impeccable leadership over the years has led him to first serve as a chief researcher with the organization, beginning in 1997, then as senior researcher, from 2002 to 2004, and finally in his current role as executive director. Prior to being taken on board with the Electrical Safety Research Institute, he spent time as a teaching assistant and chief researcher at his alma mater, Inha University, and later as a researcher at Nagoya University as well as a chief researcher at Kumamoto University.
The author of "Firefighting & Electrical Installation" in 2014, "Electrical Safety Engineering" in 2013, and "Electrical Fire Engineering" in 2004, Dr. Choi's research has also resulted in patents for electrical short and overload experimental equipment. Dr. Choi continues to serve as an advisor for both the Korea Fire Protection Association and for the Seoul Metro Subway since 2004. He is an active member of the National Fire Protection Agency, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers.
In addition to those establishments, Dr. Choi has served as vice president of KIFI, executive director of the KISK and KIFSE, former executive director of the KOSOS and the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers, and as a fellow and former executive director of the Korean Society of Forensic Science. He is also a fellow of the Korea Institute of Fire Science and Engineering. From 1982 to 1985, Dr. Choi served as a sergeant in the Korean Army. He then received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1991, a Master of Science in Engineering in 1993, and a PhD in 1996, all through Inha University.
Married to Hyun-Hwa Cho with two children, Dr. Choi has been included in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the World. In addition to receiving numerous Best Paper Awards from professional organizations, he also won several Best Professor Awards by Jeonju University, a Minister Award by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation in 2007, and a Minister Award by the Ministry of Commerce in 2003.
