Since 2009, Dr. Okamoto has served as director of the Minami-Otsuka Clinic in the special ward of Toshima, a busy commercial center and home to an international community. He serves in the disciplines of internal medicine and rheumatology, and is an accomplished researcher in the genetics of immunological regulation as well as the role of cytokines and chemokines in lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Okamoto has also been a medical instructor for many years in the Tokyo area.
Born in 1962, Dr. Okamoto attended Juntendo University in Tokyo and was certified as a doctor in March of 1987. He went on to serve an internship with Jichi Medical University, and in 1989, he joined the department of internal medicine and rheumatology. Dr. Okamoto returned to his alma mater in 1990, and in 1999, he earned a PhD from the graduate school of internal medicine at Juntendo. He joined the Tokyo Women's Medical University as an instructor in 1999, becoming an assistant professor in 2005, and an associate professor in 2008 with the Institute of Rheumatology.
Dr. Okamoto belongs to a number of Japanese medical societies, including the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, the Japan Rheumatism Association, the Japanese Society of Allergology, the Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases, the Molecular Biology Society of Japan, and the Japanese Society for Diabetes. He is a frequent contributor to Immunogenetics, International Immunology, and other medical journals. Dr. Okamoto was selected for inclusion in four volumes of Who's Who in the World, the 2011 to 2012 volume of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and the 2016 to 2017 volume of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He is married, and has a son.
