Additionally, he is a European engineer, as designated by the European Federation of National Engineers' Associations (Brussels). He is a noted expert in building water systems in town constructions, integrating thermal applications, computer utility, and integrating wastewater treatments into design. Dr. Sarbu holds five patent certificates, has written 20 computer programs, and has contributed more than 340 articles to industry journals and 32 books, including books of his own. He holds numerous awards, notably from the Association of Services Engineers and the Romanian Ministry of Education.
Born in Timisoara to Ioan and Viorica Sarbu in 1951, Dr. Sarbu studied hydrotechnics at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara when it was named the Traian Vuia Polytechnical Institute. Starting in 1975, he worked as an engineer and designer with Water Resources Management Company in Timisoara. He became an assistant professor with the university in 1979, ultimately dedicating 38 years to his alma mater.
In 1991, the university was renamed, and in 1993, Dr. Sarbu earned a PhD in civil engineering at the newly christened institution. His book, "Energetical Optimization of Water Distribution Systems," was recognized with a 1997 Award from the Romanian General Association of Engineers, and in 1999, Dr. Sarbu was invited to become an expert reviewer with the Romanian National Board of Scientific Research in Higher Education. He was named head of the department of building services engineering in the Polytechnic University of Timisoara in 2000, and in 2004, Dr. Sarbu was entrusted as a doctoral degree advisor of the civil engineering branch.
Dr. Sarbu has also written "Hydraulics of Town Constructions and Installations," "Numerical and Optimizing Methods in Building Equipment Design," and "Computers Utility in Building Services Engineering." His noted achievements include innovations in water decantation, thermal pipe filling, and the production of ozone in water treatment for processing wastewater. Dr. Sarbu has been a scientific advisor to the Romanian Journal of Civil Engineering, the Bulletin at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara, and the Building Equipment Technique Journal. He served with the advisory board of the Research Center for Building Equipment, as head of the National Building Equipment Laboratory, and as a member of the Technical Council of Civil Engineering in the Romanian Ministry of Public Works.
Dr. Sarbu has been a certified energetical auditor of buildings since 2003, the same year he coordinated an international academy research project with Global Gnomon Company in Madrid. He has contributed as an editor or reviewer to numerous civil engineering journals and maintains membership with the Romanian General Association of Engineers, the Society of Computer Aided Engineering, the Scientific Academy of Romania, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, and the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research.
Dr. Sarbu was named 2009 Man of the Year by the American Biographical Institute, among numerous awards. He has received a 2010 Albert Einstein Excellence Award and a 2013 Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award. The Ministry of Education in Romania named Dr. Sarbu a 1986 Distinguished Professor, and the Association of Building Services Engineers has bestowed numerous honors as well. Over the course of a prolific research career, Dr. Sarbu has won many grants to fund his work, notably from the National Board of Scientific Research and Higher Education in Romania.
For remarkable achievements in civil engineering, Dr. Sarbu was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in the World and five volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering from 2005 to 2017. Dr. Sarbu enjoys soccer in his free time. He married Eleonora Sichitiu in 1975, with whom he has a daughter, Lorena.
