Anthony G. Chila, DO, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    ATHENS, OH, September 05, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Anthony G. Chila, DO, a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Chila celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Drawing upon more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Chila is a widely renowned physician and medical educator. He has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and Who's Who in the World. Additionally, Dr. Chila was selected for inclusion in the sixth edition of Who's Who in American Education, the first through eighth editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and fourth and sixth editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Most recently, he was selected to receive the inaugural Distinguished Service Award from the Fellows of the American Academy of Osteopathy, as well as the Distinguished Service Award from the Osteopathic Cranial Academy. In recognition of his commitment to medical education, Dr. Chila was named Educator of the Year by The American Osteopathic Foundation in 2013.

Prior to pursuing a medical career, Dr. Chila attended Youngstown State University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. Upon completing a DO at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 1965, he completed an internship at Warren General Hospital in Ohio. During this time, Dr. Chila maintained a private practice for more than a decade. In 1977, he was awarded a faculty appointment at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Chila later transferred to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was recognized as a professor in the department of family medicine until his retirement in 2011.

Since his retirement, Dr. Chila has been recognized as professor emeritus of family medicine by the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Previously, he served as the chief of clinical research for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and as the chairman of the department of family medicine. In this capacity, he participated extensively in the college's administrative and budget management processes. This service included development of the department as a significant entity in the life of the college, management of numerous grants related to departmental development, and promulgation of support mechanisms for clinical research activity by the clinical faculty. After concluding his service as department chairman, Dr. Chila implemented an integrated track Family Medicine-Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Residency Program, and served as director of this model program from 1992 to 1998. From 1994 to 2003, Dr. Chila served as Section Chief of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Chila has presented his research at American Osteopathic Association Research Conferences and Congresses of the International Federation of Manual Medicine. Dr. Chila holds membership in the American Osteopathic Association, Ohio Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Osteopathy, Osteopathic Cranial Academy, American Association for the Advancement of Science, New York Academy of Sciences, National Academies of Practice (Osteopathic Medicine) and many others. The American Osteopathic Association Board Certifications are held in the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice (ACOFP) and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (AOBNMM).

Dr. Chila's status as a Fellow was conferred by the American Academy of Osteopathy (1977), and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy (2007). Throughout the course of his career, he has served on numerous committees and held various administrative and executive roles.

Dr. Chila has been the author or co-author of papers published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, Osteopathic Annals, Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Manual Medicine and Journal of Musculoskeletal Pain, among others. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the American Academy of Osteopathy Journal from 2000 to 2007. He has also served as Executive Editor of the third edition of Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. In 2012, he edited the American Academy of Osteopathy 75th Anniversary publication, Engaging the Future by Reviewing the Past. As a co-editor (with Torstein Liem and Paolo Tozzi), he helped develop the 2017 publication Fascia in the Osteopathic Field.

The development of student interest in clinical research has been a major focus of Dr. Chila's activity since 1985. He initiated and provides funding for the Dr. and Mrs. Anthony G. Chila Career Osteopathic Medicine Award at OU-HCOM. In his capacity as a visiting clinician, he established and contributed to the Wilbur V. Cole, Sr., D.O., Clinical Research Fund at UNE-COM.

Prior to his retirement, Dr. Chila has delivered the Scott, Burns, Northup, Sutherland and A.T. Still Memorial Lectures. In 1995, he was the recipient of the AOA Bureau of Research Gutensohn-Denslow Award. In 1997, he was presented with the Andrew Taylor Still Medallion of Honor by the American Academy of Osteopathy, and was recognized as Alumnus of the Year by his alma mater, now KCUMB-COM. In 2001, he was designated a Distinguished Founder of the American Order of Excellence by the American Biographical Institute.

Dr. Chila and his wife, the former Helen Paulick, are the proud parents of a married daughter, Anne E. Fornshell, of Galena, OH. Anne and her husband, Matthew L. are parents of two children: Sarah Elizabeth, and Katharine Anne.
