A physician with more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Roberts graduated from Hobart University in NY with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1974, followed by an MD from Autonomous University in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1979. Completing his internal medicine residency at the Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, Dr. Roberts earned a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Jackson Memorial Hospital and affiliated centers. Dr. Roberts became a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, as well as a certified diabetes educator.
Dr. Roberts is also a certified physician executive by the American Association of Physician Leadership, a certified endocrine coder by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and a certified healthcare quality manager by American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. Years later, Dr. Roberts returned to school, graduating from the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL, with an MBA in 1995.
Dr. Roberts has held voluntary academic positions at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, the University of Florida College of Medicine, and Florida State University College of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. Dr. Roberts also serves as a member of the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He is the former president and treasurer of the Seminole County Medical Society as well as former president of the Orange County Medical Society. Currently, Dr. Roberts is a member of the Central Florida Medical Reserve Corps, a division of the Florida Department of Health, in Orlando since 2008.
Recently named to the Top 10% of Healthcare Professionals in the Country by Castle Connolly Top Doctors in 2015, Dr. Roberts has also received several other recognitions, including a Practice Medicine Preceptor Award twice by the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in 2012 and 2014, and a Governor's Appointment Diabetes Advisory Council Award by the Florida Governor's Office from 2000 to 2004.
