Prior to joining Stanford, he was a resident in otolaryngology at Washington University, where he also became a head and neck surgery fellow. Dr. Sirjani was inspired to enter the field of head and neck surgery at age 12, after he had an ENT-related surgery to correct a childhood injury; it set the path for his entire life.
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Dr. Sirjani holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and an MD, which he earned in 1996 and 2001, respectively. Notably, he has been recognized many times for his work in the field. Over the years, he has earned the Centennial Achievement Award through the University of Arizona, the Young Investigator Award through the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists, the Michael Paparella Award through Washington University, and Teacher of the Year through Stanford University. Looking ahead, Dr. Sirjani intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
Dr. Sirjani has been the Chief of Otolaryngology Division at the VA in Palo Alto since 2012. His most successful initiatives has been the novel use of telemedicine to provide complicated head and neck cancer care to understaffed VA centers such as Fresno and Albuquerque. The Stanford VA division has become a premier hub for head and neck cancer in the West Coast and a favorite rotation amongst our residents.
As the director of the salivary program at Stanford since 2013, Dr. Sirjani's practice is focused on minimally invasive parotidectomy. He was the first surgeon at Stanford to offer patients sialoendoscopy and minimally invasive Parotidectomy. His research interests include innovations in minimizing morbidity from Parotid cancer treatment. He invented the only partoidectomy surgical simulator in the country, which is funded by CIMIT and used to teach other surgeons about the tension placed on the facial nerve during Parotidectomy. Stanford is now a primary center for the treatment of salivary related cancers, performing one of the highest numbers of parotidectomies in the country.
