At a young age, Mr. Ross was influenced by his parents experience living through the Great Depression; this experience inspired him to pursue a career path that would allow him to help people and have a positive impact on his community. This led to his interest in law as a profession, a broad-educational field he thought would also challenge him intellectually. In 1963, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin and Marshall College. In 1966, he received a JD from Columbia University, and in 1967, a Master of Science in International Law from the London School of Economics. He was admitted to practice in New York in 1968.
Around this time, Mr. Ross began his career as an associate, then partner, at Shearman and Sterling. In 1993, he moved to Citigroup, New York where he served as a deputy general counsel and as general counsel of Citibank. He continued his career as counsel at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Door LLP in 2004 and 2005.
Mr. Ross is now a consultant at Blaqwell Legal Consulting, where he has served for more than 10 years. He has also served Clutch Group US and India since 2007, first on the advisory board and then as its chair. He is well reputed in the fields of corporate and banking law, project finance, and private equity.
Mr. Ross was an active member of the Boy Scouts growing up and became an Eagle Scout. He believes that the guidance and leadership skills the Boy Scouts provide had a profound impact on his own life, and so he has committed his time and talents to giving back to the organization. For more than 15 years, Mr. Ross has served as a member of the board of directors and as a member of the board finance committee of Greater New York Councils Boy Scouts of America.
Beyond his work with the Boy Scouts of America, Mr. Ross also served his community as a member of the board of directors of AIESEC US, an organization dedicated to youth leadership development, for more than 20 years. He is a member of the American Law Institute, the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, the Association Bar City of New York, and the University Club of New York.
Mr. Ross is the son of Alexander Ash and Matilda (Blumenthal) Ross. He has been married to Leslie Gordon for more than 40 years. They have two children, Christopher Gordon and Alan Gordon, and Christopher's wife and daughter-in-law, Jessica Siegel. They are the grandparents of Thomas Martin and Katherine Grace. In his free time, Mr. Ross enjoys going to art exhibitions, theatre, film, travelling, and fitness. Mr. Ross has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
