Dr. Salyer serves as an associate professor with the School of Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University

With an impressive 50 years of professional excellence to her name, Dr. Salyer serves as an associate professor with the School of Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University. With the esteemed academic institution, she has also lent her services as an interim chair of Adult Health & Nursing Systems and project co-director for the Outcomes Research in Nursing Administration project. Over the years, she has worked for the Medical College of Virginia as a clinical nurse specialist case manager in the Division of Cardiology as a research nurse, and in the Cancer Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Program. Furthermore, Dr. Salyer has worked for the Virginia Department of Health, Jackson Memorial Medical Center, the University of Miami, and the University of Alabama Hospitals.
A graduate of the University of Alabama and Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Salyer holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and a PhD in Nursing. In order to remain active and engaged among her professional circles, she affiliates herself with the American Heart Association, the National Academies of Practice, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and the Southern Nursing Research Society, as well as many other organizations.
A contributor to numerous scholarly articles and presentations, Dr. Salyer has been recognized many times throughout her career for her professional accomplishments. During the course of her career, she has won the Nursing Research Award through the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the Distinguished Outstanding Faculty Award through Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, and an A.D. Williams Research Fellowship.
