WILLIAMSBURG, VA, October 04, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Pamela G. Cappetta, EdD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Cappetta celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A private practice psychotherapist and mindfulness teacher of more than 20 years, Dr. Cappetta founded her practice in 1995 in Williamsburg, VA. Helping patients in the process of facing everyday life challenges via talk therapy and group therapy, as well as using other valuable tools like guided meditation, relaxation, and self-acceptance techniques, Dr. Cappetta offers both one-on-one and group sessions. She also offers eight-week group mindfulness courses, where patients come to understand what it means to pay attention on purpose in a way that is friendly and non-interfering. The benefits of mindfulness include lower stress and higher calmness in the mind and the body, as well as developing insight and wisdom into the habits of judging, thinking, and reacting that are at the core of stress reactions.
Dr. Cappetta has also been teaching as an allied health professor at William J. Farley Center in Williamsburg since 1994. Located near Colonial Williamsburg, VA, the center is a place of healing that offers quality, affordable addiction treatment. She previously taught as a clinical assistant professor at the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia.
Receiving a Bachelor's degree at Shippensburg University, followed by a Master of Education and EdD at the College of William of Mary, Dr. Cappetta has since become a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Virginia. After the completion of her Master's degree, she began working as a social worker in 1981, and later as a coordinator for a counseling center at the College of William and Mary. As a family therapist with TMJ Research Center at the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia in 1984, she became the co-owner/counselor of Family Living Institute four years later, a position she held until 1994. During her term at the institute, she also served as a medical family therapist with Norge Family Practice.
Dr. Cappetta's decision to enter into the field of family therapy was the result of a culmination of experiences that she had experienced earlier in life, including poor health as a child and medical complications, as well as her rural upbringing, which ultimately led her to follow a more holistic approach to family therapy. Once she began studying in her chosen field, she found great mentorship in two particular individuals, Dr. Daniel Laskin and Dr. Stanislav Grof, both of whom she had worked with previously. Dr. Grof, whose theory surrounds the parental in the field of transpersonal psychology, is also what led Dr. Cappetta to become a certified practitioner of holotropic breathwork.
For a short time, Dr. Cappetta served as a director coordinator for Transitions, a holotropic breathwork practitioner, and a faculty member for the Body-Mind Clinic in North Carolina. She also served on the board of directors for the Virginia Cancer Pain Initiative and as a volunteer for the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation. She remains active as a member of the American Academy of Pain Management, the National Board of Certified Counselors, and the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association.
A mother of one amazing daughter, Dr. Cappetta enjoys traveling, reading novels, bicycling and walking her dog through the neighborhood, and singing in the choir at Williamsburg Community Chapel. For more information, visit www.drpamm.com.
