For many decades, Dr. Johnson honed his expertise in history with a teaching job in Illinois. Subsequently, he joined the U.S. Army Weapons Command as an assistant historian and chief historian. Over the years, he held a number of academic roles, including instructor, assistant professor and visiting assistant professor with Augustana College, Dana College and the University of Nebraska, before becoming an archivist and historian for Harry S. Truman Library in Missouri.
A graduate of Augustana College and the Iowa State University, Dr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and a PhD. His professional affiliations include the Jackson County Historical Society and the Scandinavian Association. Throughout his notable career, he has contributed his knowledge to a number of creative works, including "George S. Viereck: German-American Propagandist," "Portal to the Plains," "Power, Money and Women: Words to the Wise from Harry S. Truman," and "Rockford Swedes: American Stories," the latter of which was co-authored in 1993. Additionally, Dr. Johnson has been recognized many times for his work in the field, being featured in publications such as Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest, as well as "Contemporary Authors" and the "Directory of American Scholars."
