Born in Missouri in 1934, Mr. McAmis is now retired after spending close to 35 years in the field working as an attorney for various firms, all of which were located in New York City. Completing a Bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, followed by a LLB at Harvard University, Mr. McAmis was admitted to practice law by the Bar of New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the Supreme Court of the United States, and the U.S. Court of Appeals the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Third District as well as the D.C. Circuit Court.
During the first 10 years of his career, Mr. McAmis worked as an associate attorney for three different law firms before making partner at Lovejoy, Wasson, Lundgren, and Ashton, and joined Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom in 1977. Thirteen years later, he became partner of commercial litigation and mergers and acquisitions for the City of New York's committee on professional ethics in the federal courts. During the mid-1980s, Mr. McAmis also taught as an adjunct professor of law at Fordham University and later at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, for a total of six years in academia .From 1990 to 1993, he served as a special partner, pro bono, at Skadden and Arps until fully retiring.
Mr. McAmis served on the board of directors for Aston Magna Foundation of Music, Inc., the Community Research Initiative of New York, and the Lambda Legal and Education Fund. A member of the Senden Society, he has one child from a previous marriage, and currently has a life partner, Gerson Gonzalez. Serving two years for his country in the U.S. Army, Mr. McAmis has been highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the world.
