A metallurgical engineer with more than 50 years of experience in the field. Dr. Yamada has been representing the Yamada Research and Consulting Office in Akashi, Japan, since 2002. His wealth of experience and expertise, which were formed on the principles that he learned in school and included a Bachelor, Master and PhD all in Engineering at Osaka University, have not only enabled him to successfully work out in the field for several wonderful organizations, but have led him to achieve 28 national and eight international patents in the field of light weight steel wires for valve springs and other uses and their production methods. He has developed light weight suspension springs and valve springs, high strength steel tire cord material and suspension bridge cable wires, the high strength of the latter wires was achieved for the first time in the world by applying direct water cooling system for dry drawing developed by him. He has also developed heat treatment free production methods of pre-stressed concrete wire/strands and cold heading wire for sparking plug shells, and a host of other developments in the field. In addition, he has elucidated a basic mechanism of embrittlement of high carbon steel wires heated at warm temperature.
Following his first role as a researcher with the Central Research Laboratory at Kobe Steel, Ltd. in 1966, Dr. Yamada was promoted to serve as chief researcher in the organization's wire rod and bar development department 12 years later. After close to 20 years of service, he then served as general manager for Kobe Steel, Ltd. for another four years before going to work for Suncall Corporation, where he remained for 10 years in the capacities of director, executive technical advisor, and technical advisor.
Dr. Yamada has previously lectured at Graduate School at Kansai University (2002-2016), Setsunan University and Ryukoku University. A member a number of organizations, including the Japan Society of Spring Engineers (honorary member), the Japan Society for Heat Treatment, the Society of Materials Science of Japan, the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan, the Institute of Professional Engineers of Japan, and the Wire Association International, Dr. Yamada also serves as both member and current advisor for the Fine Particle Bombarding Society of Japan. Dr. Yamada has also contributed many scientific articles to professional journals throughout his career as the result of his research, and is the 2007 chief editor and co-author of "Materials for Springs".
Receiving an American Medal of Honor by the American Biographical Institute in 2002, Dr. Yamada was previously given the Japanese Government Patent Agency Chief Officer Award in 1991. He has been named to several editions of Who's Who in Asia, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World for his stellar achievements. Married to Keiko Kanemoto since 1970, Dr. Yamada is the proud parent of one.
