The American contact for the industrial control arm of the international automation leader Moog, Mr. Almqvist values his innovation, versatility in his capabilities and new businesses. He attributes his success to his education and creating good teams with people, and is an expert in industrial general management, project management, product line management, purchasing, as well as other vital industrial engineering and operational aspects. Mr. Almqvist started working with summer jobs as a stock worker and janitor. Professional career started with purchasing engineer, but quickly grew into his role as a management professional. He speaks Finnish, English, German, Swedish, and a little Dutch.
Before attending higher education, Mr. Almqvist completed professional school as an aircraft technician, and between degrees, he served with the Finnish Air Force to receive a Military Decoration in 1983. Afterwards, Mr. Almqvist earned a BSc in Automotive Engineering with the Institute of Technology at Helsinki and worked with pneumatics, hydraulics, and truck technology as an engineer and lecturer. In 1988, he joined Moog Corporation as a branch manager, and bolstered his qualifications with an MBA from the Helskinki University of Technology in 1997 after studying mechatronics, automation, and hydraulics in same university to advance his technical knowledge.
Mr. Almqvist was uniquely qualified to enter the world of industrial automation during the '90s, and worked for Moog in numerous management roles from product line management in plastics to systems engineering, including General Manager role in the Netherlands. He left Europe in 2013 to become general manager of the Americas at Moog Industrial Controls in East Aurora, NY. Mr. Almqvist was responsible for North and South America as well as the Industrial plant in Philippines. From 2015 to 2016, he was the group vice president for industrial services responsible for $160 million in U.S. business, the most profitable business for the industrial group in that time. He assumed his current role in 2016, primarily as a driver of industrial growth by exploring of new markets and technologies.
Mr. Almqvist has continued to develop himself professionally, most recently coaching with Performance Consultants International. He learned languages by attending night school and personal courses, and similarly attended management and engineering development programs. Mr. Almqvist enjoys sporting activities such as bicycling, riding motorcycles, and alpine skiing. He spends much of his spare time with his family.
