Widely renowned as a researcher and biological science specialist, Mr. Dey has been recognized as a health sciences specialist and supervisory cytologist with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2008. Mr. Dey is actively involved as a cytology fellow of the International Academy of Cytology, and was notably invited for cytopathology and forensic anthropology tutorials at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington in 1987 and 2008. More recently, he was selected to attend an IAC Cytopathology tutorial in Gothenburg, Sweden and in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2017. He participated many cytopathology symposia in USA including The Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology (USCAP). He attended numerous scientific meetings at the European Congress and International Congress of Cytology in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Canada, France, Greece, India, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (1985-2016).
Mr. Dey was born in Calcutta, India, to Bhairab Chandra and Satyabla Dey and attended Bangabasi College, where he received a BSc with Distinction in 1970. He went on to complete a MSc at the University of Calcutta in 1972. Upon receiving postgraduate certification in life science in 1974, Mr. Dey began working as a Research Fellow with the university. He joined the Anthropological Survey of India in 1976 and worked in the U.S. as a biological science assistant with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research and as supervisory cytologist at WRAMC. He completed courses in leadership management, educational development, quality improvement, and equal opportunity. Mr. Dey went on to serve as a cytology specialist for the U.S. Army, notably for two years with the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe Medical Center, in Mons, Belgium. He was a valued laboratory inspection team member with the College of American Pathologists and served as a Cytopathology Inspector with St. Joseph Hospital, St. Mary Hospital, Howard University Medical Center, Alexandria Hospital (2008-2016). Additionally, Mr. Dey completed postgraduate coursework at Laval University and Albert Einstein School of Medicine. He is a registered cytotechnologist with American Society of Clinical Pathologists, International Academy of Cytology, and a board certified QUATE with the European Federation of Cytology Societies in 2015, after earning a CT cytology diploma with the Brooke Army Medical Center in 1983. Since 1984, Mr. Dey has been a citizen of the U.S.
Mr. Dey is a member of International Academy of Cytology, DAV, Indian Academy of Cytologists, Indian Anthropological Society, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Society of Cytopathology, and American Legion. Mr. Dey has presented paper at the Indian Science Congress and contributed articles to professional journals in the field of biological anthropology.
Mr. Dey has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals and Who's Who in the World. Other honors include Worlds Who's Who of Men and Women in Distinction, The American Biographical Institute, International Biographical Research Foundation Asia (India), IBC International Leaders in Achievement, Dictionary of International Biography, and Strathmore's Who's Who. He is the recipient of a Decorated U.S. Army Commendation Medal, Achievement Medal and Good Conduct medals. Mr. Dey received Excellence in Teaching Award from National Capital Region Consortium Pathology Residency Washington DC, 1996-1997. He was named the recipient of the Decree of Merit for outstanding contribution to medicine and health care. Most recently, he received the Services Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2011, 2016, and the Bronze Award from the U.S. Government Federal Executive Board for Excellence in Federal Career, VAMHCS in 2013. He intends to continue advancing molecular technology for the clinical practice of cytopathology. In his free time, Mr. Dey enjoys traveling, watching life under the ocean, wildlife, origin of the planets. He is listed in the genealogical history 'The Deys in North America'.
