Bringing books to life for others, Dr. Kelly has been a librarian at East Baton Rouge Parish School in Louisiana since 2001 following six years of service at Holy Family School in Port Allen, LA. Coming from a longstanding tenure in education, she previously spent 21 years as a teacher at her current school as well as four years as a principal at St. Isidore Middle School. During her years in the classroom, Dr. Kelly simultaneously worked as a writer and producer for The Video Company in Baton Rouge from 1983 and 1990. She also taught for a year as an instructor of a conversation course at Louisiana State University whilst moonlighting as a freelance writer, storyteller, and in pre- and post-video production for The Book Doctor, also in Baton Rouge.
A certified English and social studies teacher, city materials media center director, and school librarian, all in the state of Louisiana, Dr. Kelly is an avid reader who volunteers her time by writing book reviews for several magazines as well as visiting public libraries to perform storytelling skits for people. Dedicated to her field, Dr. Kelly is also a former non-public school commission member of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and former longtime member and chairman of the administration commission at St. Aloysius Catholic Church for 16 years. She has written many articles in professional and academic journals in her field, is an ongoing presenter, and has been known to sponsor various yearbooks and literature magazines.
Dr. Kelly is a longstanding member of the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Louisiana Association of Educators, the East Baton Rouge Parish Association of Educators, and the Louisiana Library Association, where she has also served in various leading roles. Cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in Finance and Business 20 times, Dr. Kelly noted that the success of her career in education has mostly been due to the loving support of her parents and husband. Married to Karl Joseph Nix, Dr. Kelly has one daughter, a son-in-law and two grandchildren.
