Since 2015, Dr. Paulus has served as a retina surgeon, physician and assistant professor with the University of Michigan. Nearly 20 years earlier, he worked for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center as a research assistant. Over the years, he has also lent his expertise to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as a transitional year intern, Stanford Byers Eye Institute as a resident physician, and the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University as a surgical vitreoretinal fellow and assistant faculty member.
A graduate of the prestigious Harvard University and Stanford University, Dr. Paulus holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard, and an MD with a scholarly concentration in Bioengineering from Stanford. In order to remain active and engaged in the field, he affiliates himself with the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the Association for Research and Vision and Ophthalmology, the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and the Michigan State Medical Society, as well as many others. Throughout his career, he has been award on numerous occasions for his professional accomplishments, earning the Gragoudas Award through the Macular Society in 2015, a fellowship through the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation in 2013-2014, the ASERS Foundation Resident Excellence Award in 2013, and Greek America's Forty Under Forty Leaders in the Community. He has received several grants from the National Institutes of Health, Fight for Sight, International Retinal Research Foundation, Alliance for Vision Research, and Knights Templar Eye Foundation. He manages an active laboratory along with a clinical and surgical practice to cure blindness and improve vision in patient with retinal diseases.
