Dr. Kantor recently retired as a clinical professor of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, a position he held since 2005. He previously served the university as an associate professor of medicine and pathology at the Chicago Medical School from 1975 to 1993. He also taught at Texas Tech University's Health Sciences Center for a number of years. He was interim chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine from 2000 to 2002, and professor of internal medicine and director of the Division of Infectious Diseases from 1993 to 2002.
Dr. Kantor began his career in 1969 as an instructor at the School of Medicine of the University of Miami. Shortly afterwards, he served as an assistant professor of medicine and microbiology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Dr. Kantor also held a career in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center; he served the center as chief of medical microbiology from 1985 to 1992 and director of the Division of Infectious Diseases from 1975 to 1985. Furthermore, Dr. Kantor is a United States Army veteran, having served as captain from 1964 to 1966.
Dr. Kantor graduated from Washington University in 1962 and studied at the University of Miami from 1955 to 1958. He continued his education as a postgraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1967 to 1969. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Infectious Disease. He was also certified in medical microbiology by the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. Kantor has published chapters in textbooks and numerous articles in professional journals. Additionally, he acts as a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He is also a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America.
Dr. Kantor always had a fascination for the sciences, and knew at the age of 12 that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine; in fact, he wrote to Harvard Medical School to request for descriptions of the courses he would be able to take at the medical school. In high school, he worked as a hospital orderly at Jacksonville Memorial for two years. It was during his residency that he decided to focus on infectious diseases after being inspired by the doctors he worked alongside.
Dr. Kantor was honored as a recipient of the National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship in Infectious Diseases held at the New England Medical Center Hospital in Boston from 1966 to 1969. He was also commended with the University of Health Sciences and the Chicago Medical School Board Trustees Research Award in 1977. His outstanding professorship was also recognized with the Master Educator Award by the Rosalind Franklin University at Chicago Medical School in 2010.
Dr. Kantor is also featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World. The son of Jack Kantor and Henrietta Kantor, he has been married to Elvia Frostick since November 8, 1992. He has two stepchildren: Harold and Eric Frostick. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, photography, and working with computers.
