After 18 years as a journalist specializing in harbor loading, overland transport, warehousing, and other aspects of logistics, Mr. Kim is now the editor-in-chief and chief executive officer of the successful media company CLO. It is regarded as one of the youngest, yet fastest developing media in Korea, and reached first place in online traffic rankings for domestic logistics-specialized media. Mr. Kim has long held a dream of being the first journalist in Korea to focus on "new logistics," which classified large entities like Amazon and Google as "logistics corporations," and analyzed their perspectives from that angle. The company has not only published articles on corporations, it has edited and published two books. Dr. Kim is the co-author and planner of "Logistar Forecast," which predicts ten new technologies changing future distribution based on Schumpeter's "Disruptive Innovation" writings.
Mr. Kim entered journalism in 1999 after serving with the South Korean military Logistics Support Command from 1994 to 1996, and earning a BA from Hanyang University in 1998. He later attended an advanced management program at Yonsei University's Sangnam Institute of Management, and a global logistics management program at Inha University. Mr. Kim first wrote for Ktpress magazine, later becoming a senior manager with the Hanjin management planning office, and wrote for the Segye Times, one of the ten daily newspapers in Korea. He wanted to be "Korea's first distribution-specialized reporter", and was frustrated by the lack of higher learning in the subject.
After leaving Segye Times, Mr. Kim established a blog on logistics before publishing CLO in 2013. It started as a premium magazine related to supply chains, distribution, and general logistics, which did not exist in Korea despite logistics becoming more and more relevant to firms like Samsung and LG. In 2015 CLO moved beyond logistics to production, distribution, and the information technology industry. Mr. Kim is now a frequent lecturer and presenter at numerous South Korean universities and industries. In 2016, CLO launched the annual Logistar Summit to predict future logistics trends, with the contribution of the startups Gogovan and Freightos, as well as corporations like Lazada, Payoneer, Easyship, and Openport.
Mr. Kim is married to Kim Hee Jeong, and has two sons, Kim Dong Hwan and Kim Si Jun. He looks forward to expanding CLO globally, and feels he has been very lucky in growing his company so quickly, despite criticism in the publishing industry.
