A professor emeritus, Dr. Nahinsky worked in the department of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Louisville in Kentucky for 23 years, beginning in 1970 as a professor of cognitive psychology. Prior to his retirement in 1993, he previously spent five years as an assistant professor at the University of Kansas City, assistant professor at St. Louis University, and associate professor at the University of Missouri. He is also a former research psychologist at the U.S. Naval Personnel Research Field Activity in San Diego as well as at Oregon Study for Rehabilitation of Mental Hospital Patients and Oregon State Hospital for four years.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nahinsky has received several research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and from The Army Research Institute. Although he is no longer working on campus, he continues to conduct scholarly research. He has authored numerous articles to professional journals that date back as far as 1956. Most recently, he authored "Parallel interactive processing as a way to understand complex information processing: The conjunction fallacy and other examples" in a 2017 edition of the American Journal of Psychology. He also authored one chapter of the book "Advances in Psychology: Percepts, Concepts, and Categories, The Representation and Processing of Information," titled 'Episodic Components of Concept Learning and Representation."
Dr. Nahinsky completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a PhD in Psychology at the University of Minnesota in 1952 and 1955, respectively. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1948 to 1968, attaining the rank of captain in the Medical Service Corps. He is a former member of the American Psychological Association and the Psychonomic Society. A current member of the Society for American Baseball Research, one of his biggest hobbies includes SABRmetrics, which is the analysis of baseball statistics. He also loves running. Married to Gertrude Nahinsky, Dr. Nahinsky has two children and one grandchild.
