Backed by more than 35 years of industry experience, Mr. Luby currently works as the Assistant Director of Representation and as an attorney for the Air Line Pilots Association, International, where he started as senior labor relations counsel in 2005. While growing up he saw and admired a number of attorneys who represented working people and hoped that he could have the same sort of experience as a lawyer. Before coming to ALPA he was in private practice and lent his expertise to, among others, the American Postal Workers' Union, the Transport Workers Union, and the Independent Pilots Association in collective bargaining issues and litigation.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Mr. Luby holds a JD, and received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He is a member of the Michigan, Virginia and District of Columbia Bar Associations, and is a cochair of an ABA Subcommittee on Labor and Employment Legislation. He enjoys his work and remains very active. Over the past few years he has participated as a negotiator and counsel in bargaining, which led to agreements at United, Spirit, ASTAR and United Parcel Service. He was also gratified to be asked to testify as an expert witness in interest arbitration over the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement between the American Postal Workers' Union and the United States Postal Service pursuant to the provisions of the Postal Reorganization Act just last year.
Beyond his status as a respected and long-standing figure in his field, Mr. Luby has been recognized on numerous occasions for his professional accomplishments, earning an award through his employer in 2015 as well as from other unions earlier in his career. In the near future, Mr. Luby intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
