His areas of focus for his research covers the electrodeposition method for simulating the deposited corrosion products on nuclear materials in the secondary system of nuclear power plants, as well as galvanic corrosion behavior and mechanism between the nuclear materials and corrosion products in the secondary system of nuclear power plants. Driven by his strong interest in the scientific field, Dr. Soon-Hyeok is also known for his extensive research on the alloy design of duplex stainless steel for the improvement of corrosion resistance and the optimization of process for industrial application of duplex stainless steel.
Before establishing himself professionally, Dr. Soon-Hyeok found it imperative to pursue his own education. A graduate of Yonsei University in Seoul, Republic of Korea, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering in 2007, a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering in 2009, and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering in 2014.
In only four short years, Dr. Soon-Hyeok's impact on his industry can be seen in his 30 published scientific papers he has written covering his areas of expertise. His most recent works include "Effects of dissolved hydrogen on general corrosion behavior and oxide films of alloy 690TT in PWR primary water" in the Journal of Nuclear Materials, "Synergistic effect of chloride ions and magnetite on the corrosion of Alloy 690 in Alkaline Solutions" and "Effect of polyacrylic acid on the corrosion behavior of carbon steel and magnetite in alkaline aqueous solutions." Eager to continue his impact on the field of material sciences, Dr. Soon-Hyeok intends to continue in his professional pursuits in the years to come at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute while taking on new opportunities as they arise.
