Dr. Lincoln-Smith has acted as a soloist at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Phoenix since 1994. She was also involved in academia, acting as a professor at Phoenix College from 1973 to 2003 and as a singer and professor at the Glendale Community College from 1968 to 1970. She was also involved with the Phoenix Boys Choir, serving the organization as a tour coordinator, vocal coach, and soloist from 1976 to 1999. In addition, Dr. Lincoln-Smith served as a singer and soloist at Roger Wagner Chorale from 1968 to 1970, as a singer and teacher at Maryvale High School from 1964 to 1968, and as a soloist and singer at the Arizona Opera and Bach Madrigal Society from 1959 to 1967. She is also an active member of her community and has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Arts since 2005 and as a member the vestry of Saint Barnabas on the Desert. In addition, Dr. Lincoln Smith is an Episcopalian lay eucharistic minister. She has been commended for her community service by the state of Arizona with a philanthropy award in 2016.
Dr. Lincoln-Smith graduated from Arizona State University with a Doctorate in Education in 1973 and a Master's degree in Music in 1964. She also received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Cornell University in 1958. Dr. Lincoln-Smith is known as the co-author of "Singing and Growing," published in 1981 and 1984. She has been commended by multiple institutions for her outstanding contributions to her industry. Some of these awards include the Longtime Service Honor by Scottsdale Arts, awarded to her in 2017. Additionally, she was commended with a Rose of Honor by Sigma Alpha Iota in 2000.
The National Society of Arts and Letters also established the Dorothy Lincoln Smith Voice Competition in her honor; Dr. Lincoln-Smith is the past president and chairwoman of the board of trustees of the National Society of Arts and Letters, and she generously acted as the underwriter for this new competition for classical vocalists. Outside of her career in music, she enjoys scuba diving and is certified as an advanced scuba diver by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. She has now logged 848 dives, with a goal of one thousand.
