Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Sanjeevikumar is an expert researcher in the field of power electronics and circuit modeling, with a particular expertise in multiphase and multilevel converters, which was the topic of his dissertation. He currently holds the position of professor of electrical and electronics engineering science at the University of Johannesburg, and is a noted personality in the engineering world, having published more than 200 scientific papers in referred conference proceedings and international journals. Dr. Sanjeevikumar's research focus is in every type of energy production, notably with motor drives, alternating current drives, smart energy systems, renewable energy sources, and electronic vehicles. He is valued for his skill in establishing laboratories, attracting research funding, advising graduate students, and crafting computer simulations for development projects.
Born in Cuddalore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu in 1978, Dr. Sanjeevikumar studied electrical and electronic engineering at Madras University in India and graduated first class. He went on to study electrical drives and control with Pondicherry University, earning a Master of Technology, first class with distinction, in 2006. To support his postgraduate studies, he served as a lecturer of graduate level subjects at the IFET College of Engineering, and helped to establish laboratories in the college and with a number of universities in Dubai. In 2011, he earned a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Bologna in Italy, supported with a comprehensive grant from the Italian Ministry of University Research. The university's department of engineering named Dr. Sanjeevikumar a postdoctoral fellow, which allowed him to continue work in the Alma Mater Studiorum at the university. He developed fault tolerant control strategies for multiphase and multilevel alternate current motor drives, and modeled the hardware implementation in simulation software.
In 2012, Dr. Sanjeevikumar returned to India and joined the VIT University Chennai campus as an associate professor for one year. He established laboratories in collaboration with the American firm Rockwell Automation and found government and private funding for his research. Dr. Sanjeevikumar devoted five months as an assistant professor with the National Institute of Technology at Puducherry that year, and visited Qatar University as a researcher in January of 2014. Funded by the Qatar National Research Foundation, Dr. Sanjeevikumar helped to implement a dual five-phase open-winding matrix converter drive using DSpace, which supplied power balancing and fault analysis capabilities to the generation of electricity in Qatar. He went on in March to research at the Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland, where he led a team on developing a multi-terminal transmission system. In 2008, Dr. Sanjeevikumar joined Ohm Technologies in Chennai for research and development, and is retained with the firm as a permanent technical consultant.
Dr. Sanjeevikumar joined the University of Johannesburg in 2016, and continues to provide research for advanced electrical drives. He is a senior member of the IEEE, and one of the most visible personalities in the field of power electronics and drives, invited to participate in numerous international conferences. He has served on the editorial board of numerous IEEE publications, notably as associate editor with the IEEE Access Journal, and on the IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics, IET Power Electronics, IET Renewable Power Generation, IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution, IEEE Access and FACETS Journals.. He has served on the editorial board of the Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. As an expert in engineering education and software products, Dr. Sanjeevikumar has worked with Feedback, Lego, Terco, TIMS, Matlab, Lab View, the Petroleum Institute, the University of Sharjah, the University of Ajman, the American University of Sharjah, and the Institute of Applied Technology in the United Arab Emirates. His published research has won a plethora of awards, including a 2016 Best Research Paper Award at the Springer International Conference on Emerging Trends and Advances in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy in Sikkim, India, a Five Best Research Paper Award from ETAEERE 2016, and Most Excellence Research Awards from IET-CEAT 2016 and IET-SEISCON 2013.
For his accomplishments in the field of engineering and for his international standing, Dr. Sanjeevikumar was selected for inclusion in the 2016 volume of Who's Who in the World. In 2009 he married Vanidha Pandurangan, and has two children, Kishankumar and Yomeka Sanjeevikumar. Dr. Sanjeevikumar maintains a permanent address in India, and travels the world in his role as an expert in electrical engineering. He enjoys chess, cricket, and listening to music.
