With more than 40 years of experience in agronomy, Dr. Suh has worked at Yeungnam University as a professor since 1985. Additionally, he served the school in a number of other roles, including as assistant dean of the College of Agriculture Animal Science from 1989 to 1991, as dean from 1991 to 1993, and as an assistant professor from 1977 to 1985.
Dr. Suh began his career at Seoul National University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in agronomy in 1970, a Master of Science in plant breeding in 1973, and a PhD in 1977. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship and as a visiting researcher with the International Rice Research Institute, and as a visiting professor with the National Institute of Genetics in Japan. He also worked in research advisory at the Yongnam Crop Experimental Station for 10 years.
As an expert in his field, Dr. Suh has authored numerous written works, including "Plant Breeding," "Agricultural Genetics," and "Biological Studies." His most recent publication, entitled "Weedy Rice," was published in 2008. Outside of his career in academia, he is a respected inventor in agronomy, particularly in breeding functional rice varieties having high GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) content. Since 1998, he has been affiliated with the Crop Experimental Station, RDA, in Suwon.
Throughout his career, Dr. Suh has been continually recognized for his contributions to the field of agronomy. He was most recently selected as the recipient of the Presidential Medal, which was awarded by the Republic of Korea in 2007. He previously received a Korean Breeding Society Award, Best Research Award from The Korea Foundation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST), and Korean Society Crop Science Award. He has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World. In addition, He was selected for inclusion in the 1st edition of Who's Who in Asia, which was published in 2006.
